Newell-Fonda jumped out to an 8-0 lead after two innings and the Mustangs were never threatened after that as they defeated GTRA 16-1 in a Twin Lakes Conference game last Friday in Fonda.
The Mustangs scored eight runs in the second, three in the third and five more in the fourth.
Newell-Fonda collected 16 hits in the game. Ryan Greenfield and Mason Dicks led the way with three apiece. Hunter Christiansen, Hogan Henrich and Gabe Sievers all had two hits apiece. Trey Jungers, Beau Wilken, Ty Tauber and Carter Sievers each had one hit.
Christiansen and Jungers scored three runs apiece while Henrich, Dicks and Carter Sievers all scored twice. Christiansen and Gabe Sievers drove in three runs apiece while Henrich and Greenfield each knocked in a pair.
Greenfield was the winning pitcher. He allowed three hits and one earned run, walked one and struck out three in two innings. Jungers and Dicks each pitched an inning in relief.
“This is as well as we have played (last week),” Newell-Fonda coach Bo Darrow said. “We had a great practice last Thursday and it carried right into the game. Offensively, we did so much better being patient and driving the ball with runners in scoring position. We now have to carry those habits into next week.”
